10 Tips on How to Write Less Badly
When you think about being a student, the first image that comes to mind is that of a school building. Being a good student makes you think about all the things you should and should not do while studying in a school, like don’t fail in the exams, submit assignments on time, pay attention in class and take notes. But is this all that being a student is all about? Stephen Covey said in one of his self-help books: “Don’t let education get in the way of your learning.” This is a good piece of advice for those who actually want to do something in life. Paying attention to test results and memorizing stuff is good for primary students because they learn things that need to be memorized, like the alphabets and the algebraic formulas, but high school and college students need to wake up their minds and practice their talents that they want to use in their future. Even though they can shake their brains when they are out of college, but this will affect their success rate.
What students need to do is: do regular practice. Whether you want to be a football player or a writer or an artist, keep practicing your skills. You cannot wake up one day to take part in the Olympics, you need to get up every day and take out time to do what you are good at. If you are not taking out time to polish your writing skills; take it out and practice your writing skills and make time for everything else, but polishing your skills should be your top priority.
This skill should not be something that your parents picked out for you, like becoming a Doctor or an Engineer; it should be something that you are passionate about. You will not perform in the category if you are not interested. You must have an interest in the field to make you want to practice it.
Make practical goals that you can follow. The goal to study four hours a day is futile. There are a hundred possibilities for you to get distracted by a million things. Set definite and practical goals like, ‘practice math problem from page 45-47 and complete English essay for assignment submission.’ This is a goal that is both attainable and is definite. Setting impractical work plans make you lazy and a poor task manager.
